The Catholic Bible New Douay Rheims Version
The Douay-Rheims Bible, first published in 1582 (almost 30 years before the King James Bible) was the standard Catholic Bible in English for centuries. It remarks a beautiful poetic style that has been largely lost in more modern translations. However, few have ever read it because of difficulties with the archaic language. What I have attempted to accomplish here is modernize the language while retaining the beauty and flow of the original. Obviously, “thee” and “thine” have become “you” and “yours.” Also, words whose meanings have become lost to the 21st century reader have been updated. Yet, the syntax and poetic expression remains intact. I am hoping this inexpensive Kindle version will make the Douay-Rheims Bible accessible to a new generation of Catholics.
